This project quietly transforms a ranch style house in Westchester County by creating a new entry, adding a Master Suite on a small new second story and partially reorganizing the interior. The kitchen, dining and living spaces are reconfigured to form a central hall within the rambling plan, with a new fireplace and floor to ceiling windows at either end. A new glass railed stair leads through a double height entry hall to the Master Suite with its small terrace. White laquered wall panels, white marble counters and walnut details are combined with wide plank oak flooring for a warm modern look. Large sliding panels can separate the Living Dining space from the Kitchen. State of the art insulation and low-e glazing technology keep maintenance costs down while new windows and doors connect these once dark spaces to the bright, lush gardens outside. The hovering, L-shaped benches animate the deck's edge.
